New slip covers made for these cushions. A few years back I re-covered this customers cushions in a fun tropical print fabric. Since then my customer has moved and now the same furniture sits in a sun room inside the house rather then outside on the covers porch seasonally. The tropical print was fine for the warmer months but she wanted to be able to switch it up for the winter season. So I made a new set of slip covers that can be taken on and off when needed. The pillows and back rest cushions are the same full cover that I always do with a zipper at the bottom but for the seat cushions I made custom fitted sheet type covers that can simply be stretched over the cushion and are held on with an elastic bottom. Just like that, it now looks like a brand new set of furniture

It was a pleasure to make another raven mascot for a Waterloo Raven’s hockey team. I made one for another team 3 years ago and I think it might have been one of my favorite non clothing makes since then. They are SEW fun to make! I documented the creation process in my stories and saved it in my highlights if you missed them you can still check it out. I can’t wait to hear what the girls think about their mascot and hopefully it brings their team good luck!
The base of the raven and the undersides of the legs, tail and wings are lined with clear vinyl to protect it from getting wet or stuck to the ice. The girls can skate around and push the raven around on the ice during warm up and it can sit on the bench with them during the game to cheer them on. The wings are fun to move around to add animation like covering the eyes when the score of the game is close and the timers down to the last few minutes. The raven sits 20” tall and is so soft and hugable!
Custom cushions made to fit a custom built in on this deck. These extra large cushions turned out great and the customer was so happy with them. They won’t get used too much any more this season but as soon as the weather gets nice in the spring they will be ready to use.
Finished pillow collection completed this morning and already found its way to a home and on a couch.
Emergency surgery on Mr. Monkey! He had a rip in his leg and was loosing stuffing fast! I stuffed and stitched him up and now he’s as good as new. It was so heart warming seeing the look on the little boys face when he saw his monkey all fixed up.
Grommet curtains hanging up in the home! This sliding door window was extra wide, and standard curtain panels wouldn’t have covered it. I pieced together 3 fabric panels per curtain panel to get the correct length and make them look aesthetically pleasing. Customer says they are perfect for her new office space! Roman shades made to fit perfectly in this kitchen window and can easily be pulled up and down Bench seat cushion in a customers home. Custom made to fit the size of their bench. Bonus pillow made out of left over fabric to use on above bench
👗👗👗👗👗Earlier this year I was asked to make 5 bridesmaid dresses for my college roommates wedding in July. She had found some dresses that she really liked (see inspiration photo) but they would have to be ordered online, there wasn’t really an indication on sizing, they were coming from China and there were no returns or exchanges. So instead of risking it she thought she would get me to make the dresses! They would fit the girls better and the quality would be much better. We started with looking at commercial patterns to help me with sizing since everyone was a different size. There were no patterns that were the exact same as the inspiration but I found Simplicity 8289 with a bodice that was pretty close (she actually liked it better) and I could make the handkerchief hem skirt on my own to add on to it. The fabric for the dress is a beautiful ornate lace overtop of a plain navy cotton and lined with the same navy cotton, to keep the dress lightweight and cool to wear in the heat of summer. With the lace on top you can’t even tell that it’s just a simple cotton underneath. I offered the girls 2 different styles of straps so they could pick which they were most comfortable wearing and adjusted some of the patterns to bring up the neckline slightly on some of the dresses. I started with making the bodice for each dress and then had the girls come for a fitting. Once the bodices were fitted and adjustments were made I could make the skirts to attach. Now because I wanted to use the lace edge for the hem the dresses couldn’t be hemmed afterwards so length measurements were taken during the fitting and individual skirt patterns were made for each dress. One last final fitting to make sure the dresses were good to go and they were all ready for the wedding day! The girls all loved their dresses and said they will get lots of use out of them because they don’t look like your typical bridesmaid dress. I had so much fun creating and customizing these dresses. Kind words from the bride:
Nicole is SOOO talented! I met Nicole in college and was amazed at what she was able to create back then! In July, I got married and I had the Privilege of having Nicole make our girls dresss by hand! BEAUTIFUL! They turned out absolutely stunning, and everyone looked fabulous!!!! So many compliments on them Can’t thank you enough Nicole!!!!! Xoxo
3 denim memory quilts. Made with the jeans of a customers loved one who passed away. These quilts make a special keepsake and provide a delightful memory. With the quilt tops being made of all denim and backed with fleece with a layer of batting in between these quilts feel like a warm hug when you’re warped up in them.
I'm always up for a challenge when it comes to creating. I've never made a mascot before but when a customer asked if I could make one for her grand daughters hockey team I was excited to test it out. The local girls hockey teams in Waterloo are the Waterloo Ravens and teams range from all different ages and skil levels.
Requirements for this mascot were: 1) it needed to be large enough that it could sit on the ice and the girls could skate around it and it could be seen from the stands, 2) it needs to stand up on its own with out falling over, 3) when it sits on the ice we don't want it to stick to the ice or get wet. I started with drafting the pattern for it, making sure it would be big enough. I've made stuffed animals before so I knew what the flat patterns needed to look like to create a 3D object. Then I cut out the fleece fabric, batting for the wings and tail and vinyl. I used clear vinyl on top of the base and underside of the legs and tail, this way you can also see the colour and texture of the fabric underneath it and it won't get stuck to the ice or get wet. The beak, wings, legs and tail all needed to be made first so I could attach them securely to the body. Once everything was attached I sewed up the body and attached the base leaving a hole to flip it right side out and to stuff it. I stuffed the bird firmly with poly fill and before closing up the hole I added a bag of dried beans to give him some weight. This will keep him from tipping over as well as his tail and wings will balence him. The last step was to add some button eyes and he was done! He turned out absolutely amazing!! I almost didn't want to give him up because he was so perfect! The Raven was a big hit with the team and the girls were so excited to have him. Sitting at 20" tall this guy will be sitting in the middle of the ice while the girls warm up and on the side lines during the game cheering them on. Hopefully he brings them good Luck for the season! This creation was a request from a mother who's child loved the show Rob the Robot. Unfortunately at the time it wasn't a popular enough show that they were creating merchandise of the characters. This mother really wanted to give a stuffed toy of the character as a Christmas gift so she came to me in hopes I could make it. She was so thankful when I said I could make this for her! It turned out great!
Made out of super soft fleece fabric and stuffed with batting this robot is perfect for kids to play with. I added lots of stitching details to mimic the details that the character has to make it look alike. I really enjoyed making this stuffed toy from scratch! These baby blankets may look simple but the significance behind them is what is special. The lace that borders these blankets is from the wedding dress of the grandmother, she passed away before ever getting to meet her grandchildren. These 3 incredibly soft baby blankets were made as a surprise gift for her children by a dear friend. I was told these blankets brought tears to their eyes and will be cherished forever. Whenever the baby's are wrapped in these blankets it's like a warm hug from grandma.
This is a dress I made for myself for a summer wedding. I gathered a few inspiration photos then went to work making it, changing a few things as I went. Designing and making clothes for myself is a little easier then making them for other people because I can change, fit, and try on things as I'm working on it. One great thing about this dress is I only had to buy a zipper for it, both the outer and lining fabrics were from my stash. I am very happy with how this dress turned out! |
